Research
Interests:
We study
the organization of the normal human cerebral cortex
and its changes after neurological injury. Current projects
in healthy individuals and those with stroke focus on
language and motor function. Language studies in healthy
adults address the neural mechanisms of language use
in an ecological (real-world) setting. The work on hand
motor function delves into the neurobiological underpinnings
of expert skill. We also study the role of observation
and imitation in skill acquisition. In the study of stroke,
the emphasis is on the cognitive, motor, and affective
factors that influence recovery.
