Jan-Marino Ramirez

Department of Organismal Biology and Anatomy
The University of Chicago

jramire@uchicago.edu

Research Interests:

My research focuses on the cellular mechanisms that underlie the generation of rhythmic activity in the mammalian nervous system. For this purpose, we isolate functional neuronal networks in spontaneously active brain slices. These slices can then be studied with various electrophysiological and neuroanatomical techniques. Using this approach we are able to bridge several levels of integrations from the cellular/molecular level to the systems/network/behavioral level.
