Research
Interests:
My research has involved using new techniques and devices
as well as medications to treat neurological diseases in
new ways. I have been involved in deep brain stimulation
for central nervous system disorders (Parkinson’s disease
and tremor) for over 10 years, and I am interested in improving
the technique and understanding how it works. I have been
doing detailed electrophysiology in the operating room and
using it to understand problems of motor coordination in
impaired patients. I have been also interested in drug delivery
to the nervous system through implanted drug pumps for intrathecal
and intraparenchymal delivery. Another area of interest in
the laboratory is hydrocephalus. Advanced MRI techniques
are coordinated with modeling of CSF flow. Laboratory studies
on animals are done in models of hydrocephalus.
