Interests:
Our group focuses on the development of nanoparticle-based sensors for biological applications. One of our most recent developments has been to synthesize Raman-active polyethylene glycol units that can impart nanoparticle stability and can be used for tracking nanoparticles in cell cultures. In addition, we are looking into methods for creating single nanoparticle reactive oxygen species (ROS) sensors that can be used to monitor the creation of ROS in diseased tissues. Finally, we are interested in the overall issues of nanoparticle toxicity which we are investigating from both mammalian cellular toxicity as well as environmental toxicity perspectives.
